Review: Little Ocean Filter Sock Holder

Filter socks can be a great way to assist in the removal of suspended particles from your main reef display but, to be perfectly honest, you may have already found out that there aren’t too many options for easily incorporating one into your display. Coming from UK supplier, this versatile holder is just the ticket if you are looking for an attractive, effective and inexpensive piece of kit.

We’ve recently added a 4″ model to our test tank and its been working really well for the last couple of weeks now. There’s also a 7″ model available and both are crafted from high quality black 5mm acrylic. We have to say that we really love the durable, glossy black finish. The holder is really easy to fit and adjust too, with screws that are long enough to use on thick glass but which can easily be sawn-off if a shorter length is required.

This means that if you have quite a high water level in your sump, the top of the sock will likely still be held above the water line. There’s enough drop though that if your sock clogs, any water overflowing won’t get over the rim of the sump.

At £14.99 for the 4″ model, and £18.99 for the 7″, and with a swing-arm version available for an additional £3, we think these are some of the best looking and value holders available and they do their job really well.
