The Acanthuridae family of Surgeonfishes and Unicornfishes includes about 86 extant species of marine fish living in tropical seas, usually around coral reefs. Surgeonfishes are sometimes alternatively known as Tangs, a name which is derived from the German “Seetang” or seaweed (in reference to the dietary preferences of these fishes).
